Details of the Badger Golf Day at Darenth Valley in 2008 won by Eugenio Caruso |
For 2008 the Committee decided that, with variety being the spice of life, swapping around the courses so we played them at different times of the year seemed like a good idea. They must have a lot of time on their hands.......so, instead of gracing Darenth in the early Summer, we started off our 2008 golf with a late Winter visit to Shoreham. It must have been a popular decision as 28 Badgers attended the day which was generously sponsored by those rugby playing chaps at Commercial Stone (www.commercialstone.com if you're interested) so thanks to Mark and the two Johns - top Badgering! Our Genial Sponsor - Commercial Stones' Mark Smith. He plays rugby you know. Looks like he's had one too many blows to the head as well
With the dry spell in Spring preceeding the golf the course was dry and playing long and some high scores were recorded on the day. Winning team was won by Harry Cutts fourball with Nigel Smith, Dick Watts and Paul Gover joining him on the winners rostrum. Winning Team - Nigel Smith, Dick Watts, Paul Gover and Harry Cutts
Longest Drive was won by new Badger member and friend of Steve Sharp (what a glowing recommendation....) Marco 'Van Dyke' Franchi who gave a good demonstration that his drives are like his ironmongory prices - twice as much as anybody else......... Longest Drive - Marco Franchi
Making a welcome return to the Badgering fold after his sabbatical in 2007 (that means he couldn't turn up Sharpie), 'Big Al' Vallintine won Nearest the Pin, narrowly beating John Deely which was just as well, bearing in mind Deely couldn't even stand up when he tee'd off he was still so ripped from yet another Deely family gathering the night before....... Nearest the Pin - Alec Vallintine
Keeping the sponsors honour intact, John Barnes stepped up to the mark and gained a well earned third place with 38 points, but proving a drop of the ol' blackstuff is as good as medicine to an Irish man, John '15 pints of Guinness' Deely overcame the dissapointment of loosing out on Nearest the Pin to Big Al to claim second place with an impressive 40 points, even though he still couldn't even stand up straight when he collected his prize. Top Badgering!! Third Place - John Barnes
Second Place - John 'Listing' Deely
Top Badgering honours and a first visit to the winners rostrum went to Eugenio Caruso with a mighty 45 points, ensuring not only a 5 point drop in handicap for his efforts but joining Monica Lewinski as the only other American to have gone down so far, so quickly and so hard..... First Place - Eugenio 'Lewinski' Caruso
Results from Darenth Valley; 1st Eugenio Caruso, 45 (!) points off 22, new handicap 17 (!)
